Maverick buying
The UN Procurement Practitioner's Handbook, produced by the Interagency Procurement Working Group (IAPWG) in 2006 and updated in 2012 defines maverick buying as: ‘Buying goods or services 'off contract', i.e. without using contracts that have been put in place for the respective goods or services.’
